CCA is moving along with plans to provide affordable student housing In San Francisco. Using the recommendations that were outlined in the just-released Framing the Future report from Gensler, new student housing will be developed at 188 Hooper Street at the corner of 8th Street.

Currently the site is Hooper Two and Three, which primarily house the MFA studios. These studios will be relocated in a space yet to be determined and at a time that is the least disruptive to the academic schedule.

The new student housing is projected to be ready for occupancy by summer 2019.

The college will work with Art Group, LLC to develop the project. The number of beds and the amount and type of ground floor space are yet to be finalized. The architect selected for the project is Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects, Inc.; the general contractor selection process is in the works.

While we have provided student housing in San Francisco for several years, this will be the first student residence on campus, which should greatly enhance the student experience.

Summer Projects

This summer the Nave in San Francisco will undergo some new construction as we build out another two-story "pod" on the south side. This will add much-needed studio space within the main campus building.

As we get closer to the end of the semester, we will communicate about access to the main building during construction.

Also, this summer ETS and CAPL staff currently housed at 5275 Broadway will relocate to San Francisco. Our goal is to ensure a smooth transition with minimal interruption. Both offices will continue to function in their same capacities.

We will send an update once we have more information about the new location and the timing of the move.
